We are currently seeking all types of donations for our brothers and sisters in need. Would you consider thinking of our organization as we try to fill our shelves with food and supplies, so we can go out on the streets and provide people a meal?  We are also looking for clothing, and hygiene products for those in need.  We have noticed that more people our living on the streets because they lost their home due to the economy.  As they struggle on the streets and find work they have left their family and love ones in the care of other people just to provide them a better life. We are asking for your assistance to make and impact in these people’s lives.

Would you prayerfully consider supporting this organization in whatever capacity your heart is telling you. The smallest amount can go such a long way.

We have celebrated one year  in July and we have been feeding and loving people purely on FAITH alone. Thank you to those that have donated in the past,  we truly appreciate it and have been honored by your support.

If you would like to volunteer or provide us with your business talents or skills we are always looking for your assistance.

Please  email us at donation@halsdrivethru.org if you are interested in donating.

Today’s Gathering

Posted: August 21, 2011 in Uncategorized

Today was a great day for Hals Drive Thru and our 300 guests. We all witnessed 40+ people giving themselves to our Savior Jesus Christ in baptism. We gathered at Renovation Church located one mile down from Turner Field and celebrated with Pastor Leonce Crump II.

After the baptism we provided a spread of food that included smoked brisket, chicken breast, potato salad and smoked green beans. After the meal we broke out Hal’s famous banana pudding for dessert.  Today was such a blessing to be part of so many people’s lives as we broke bread together.

We are currently in an economy where people are struggling personally and financially, but this is the best time to invest some of your spare time into their lives. As hard as it is to believe, we all have time and this is the best time to help people that are going without. Let’s not let our upbringing or our generation determine if we are going to do anything at all.  Now is the time to take a stand and to support those that are in need. Maybe you can provide a financial gift or maybe you can spend some time at a shelter. Don’t wait another minute for the right time in your life, because if you are looking for a sign then you will be waiting a longtime. Think of the future blessing you are missing out on.

We are currently accepting donations online, so if you are able to donate we would appreciate your support. Mike Smoltz says “Days like today are never scheduled in our budget, but we are an organization that will not turn down any opportunity that comes our way of serving food and investing in someones life.” We would appreciate your support today.

Please visit our donation page today and we are accepting any donation amount. Thanks for your consideration in advance.

Inside Hals Drive Thru - The Non Profit

“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’”  John 6:35 NIV

HDT Mission: “To give food to those whose paths we cross and to witness to them about the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ.”

What they do:

Hal’s Drive Thru is more than a feeding program. It is an outreach ministry that uses food to bring people together to show the love of Jesus Christ in a tangible way. The needs of these people are many, and a single meal won’t address the needs of the homeless and hungry. It is a way to show that the people in need are seen, not overlooked, heard and not silenced and will be remembered and not forgotten.

The meal is a way to open up conversation and build relationships. Food plays a major role in just about everything in our culture from weddings, reunions, celebrations and even funerals. Food is a need that we all have, regardless of our financial or social status, and levels the playing field in a natural way, when at times a bible alone might seem offensive.

Showing the love of Jesus Christ has always been more effective than just preaching the love of Jesus Christ. Using food as the platform, the grills as the pulpit, Hal, Nancye, Mike and the love of Jesus Christ, we can communicate louder than with a bull horn and a bible.

Feed & Share:

A strategy to fulfill their mission is simple— feed and share. They know that people love food, and the organization loves people. They will pursue two types of events to help accomplish the HDT mission.

  •  Hal’s Drive Thru has a passion to serve the needy through outreach events. They seek to partner with existing organizations that minister to the homeless or to those with special needs by providing food for events. Whether it’s a homeless outreach in inner-city Atlanta, mothers and children at a home for unwed or abused mothers, or catering to the participants at a competition for the mentally handicapped, our desire is to come in, set up and serve excellent food with a friendly smile and listening ears. They want to hear their stories, encourage them, and share our faith while offering the hope found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. At our outreach events we will provide the food and service at no cost.
  •  The second type of events they pursue are “opportunity events” for churches, corporations, and communities who are doing an event needing food. HDT will come in and provide food and service at a reasonable fee that covers the food cost plus an additional fee which will go toward our outreach events and operations.

Hal’s Drive Thru, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit corporation registered in the State of Georgia.

Providing them warm meal for the night

Final Four Feeding

Just a quick recap of last night’s incredible evening.

So we started the day by pulling out (25) pork butt’s out of our smoker and proceeded to debone the meat. Then we created fresh coleslaw and our famous bake beans.

We arrived at the Atlanta Mission around 2:30pm and we were greeted by a lot of our friends from the community and they were excited we were there. Some of them yelled Hal what are you make for us tonight, followed by  thank you for coming tonight. A lot of things stand out at our feedings, but the one things that always stands out is the gratefulness of our visit and they appreciate us spending time with them.  Most of the homeless folks tell us Thank You and God Bless.  This is opposite to what the public and the media like to report about the homeless community.

One of the biggest complaints from the homeless community is that people feel that they are trying to take advantage of the system. Well, let me tell you from experience there isn’t any type  of system or assistance for these folks to abuse. Secondly, I met some folks that are just like me except they lost their corporate job and their house due to the economy. If you have ever stereo-typed what a homeless person should look or act like then, you might want to think again. This is a totally different world these days and I could be in the same boat as these folks unless this economy changes. This is reality and not a blog builder

Would you consider to make a change of heart and think about volunteering at one of our Drive Thru Feedings, I promise you that you will have a totally different outlook after serving these folks. All they are looking for is someone willing to spend a few minutes to hang with them and have a intelligent conversion. Our motto is that we want to make sure that everyone in attendance participates in Food, Fun and Fellowship in any order.

Feel free to contact us if you would like to participate in one of our feedings.

We are always looking for sponsors to support the financial needs or our drive thru feedings. If you are interest you can contact us at donations@halsdrivethru.org and we will get in touch with you. If you sponsor a feeding we will put your logo all over the event.

If you have any question please don’t hesitate to give Mike Smoltz a call or email us a volunteering@halsdrivethru.org

Hal’s Drive Thru

—————————————————————-
I want to tell you about a few friends of mine that have kept the left hand from knowing what the right is doing. I know some of you in the area may know their generosity, but for those of you that don’t, I wanted to tell you about them. Hal and Nancy Vernier and Mike Smoltz have made a great impact in the local community, but also for me in my personal growth. Hal, Nancy and Mike have helped me realize Gods Love for his children beyond what I previously imagined.

Sharing the word is one thing I love, but it is the giving of their life to God in every aspect that warms my heart.

Those of you that know Hal know that he and Nancy have been feeding people since 1995. The two of them along with Mike Smoltz have started Hals Drive Thru (a mobile kitchen) feeding those in need.

This is a testimony of love for my new friends that love God with all their heart. The Salt and the Light

At 5:15 am we arrived at the Atlanta Mission/ The Shepherd’s Inn and prepared to help serve this mornings breakfast. As I was walking the halls I ran into my buddy Pat and we stopped and gave each other a great big hug. Pat was the second person I met when we stopped by for the very first time 10 days ago. As I proceeded to exit one building and enter another I ran into another person and his name was Mike. Mike is the very first person I met 10 days ago and we to hugged each other and then started talking. After we hugged he was so excited to let me know that he gave himself to the Lord on Thursday of last week and he felt like a new man. We talked for about 30 minutes about his life and why he was here and it was an incredibly enriching time for both of us.

Well 6:00 am rolled around and know it was time for me to enter the kitchen and strap on my apron.  As soon as I opened the door I was created by several other individuals that I will leave nameless so I don’t breach their identity. All I can say is that we  all hugged each other and we all had smiles on our faces.  So we turned up the music prepared our stations and opened the serving windows and started serving people, grits, sausage patties, bread, juice and a banana.  This lasted til 7:00 am and then the cleaning started. We had to clean down all the serving stations, wash all the tables and mop the kitchen floor as well as the dinning hall. Then we all headed upstairs to the chapel to listen to the word of God.  The message we heard was presented by Pastor Andy Stanley from last weeks sermon. This was a powerful hour of worship and several men gave themselves to the Lord.

Then I headed back downstairs to the kitchen to assist in today’s preparation for lunch. Today’s lunch menu was chicken soup, ham, cranberry sauce, bread and dessert. At 11:00am we opened up the serving windows and fed 479 people.  Then we needed to clean up and prepare our area for the 12:00 pm feeding of the homeless community. Well, 12:00 pm was here before we knew it and we started to serve food and love on people til 1:00 pm until the last person came in. It was a slow day due to the rain but we still fed another 400 people today.

Now it was clean up time and then I need to get the clothing and food that I brought to donate to the shelter and program.  I brought pull over sweatshirts and 2500 .5 peanut butter packets for them to pass out to the community. I went back into the building and told the men I would see them later and to stay focused on Jesus Christ and to stay the coarse.  A lot of guys gave me hugs and said that I made their day for coming by and hanging with them. A lot of people come by once to serve but they never see them again and they were glad that I have been their 3 times this month.

Thank you Jesus  - Hals Drive Thru

On Saturday morning at 5:00 am we headed to downtown Atlanta to prepare to feed the Atlanta Mission and the homeless community of Atlanta.  The current weather was 15 degrees and a possibility of rain was in the forecast.
